Soccer District Preview (Class 2 - District 9)

Boys Soccer post-season starts up tonight in Boonville. Southern Boone looks to keep their District Championship streak alive. The Eagles have won 9 District Championships in a row, dating back to 2010, and are looking to make it an even 10. Southern Boone defeated Father Tolton last year in the Class 2, District 11 Championship game 3-2 and made it to the Quarterfinals before falling to Monett 1-2.

Southern Boone comes into this years district as the #1 seed, ranked #3 in Class 2 with a 21-2 record on the season. The Eagles have already played their first round opponent once (Fulton) and defeated them 6-0. The Eagles have also played Boonville already this season too, defeating them 5-0 earlier in the year. The Eagles only losses on the year are both to Class 4 schools. Losing 1-3 to Jefferson City earlier in the year and then losing 0-1 to Sedalia-Smith Cotton in the last game of the regular season. Southern Boone has won the last 8 in a row against Fulton and 15 of the last 16 matches so I like their odds in this opening game. The Eagles have good history against Boonville too, winning their last 3 against the Pirates and 12 of the last 13. But the Eagles better tread lightly as that one loss was in post-season play (Sectionals in 2016). Southern Boone hasn’t played Marshall since 201 in the Fatima Tournament. The Eagles are 3-2 All-Time against the Owls. Southern Boone will be the heavy favorite for the District Title but they can’t take anyone lightly in post-season play. Eagles play Fulton at 4:30 pm today in Boonville.

The Marshall Owls are the #2 seed in the district. Marshall is 10-10 coming into districts, losing 4 of their last 5 games. They are 3-0 against teams in the district though, defeating Boonville once 2-1 and defeating Fulton twice during the regular season (6-0 and 8-0). It should be a tough game between them and Boonville in this district match-up. The game starts at 6 pm tonight after the Southern Boone vs Fulton game.

Boonville comes into districts as the #3 seed. The Pirates are 9-6-1 on the season and winners of 4 of their last 6 games. They are 2-2 against teams in the district, defeating Fulton twice (4-1 and 8-1) and then losing to Southern Boone 0-5 and Marshall 1-2. They are playing better soccer as their two recent losses were to Class 4 Sedalia-Smith Cotton 0-1 and Class 1 ranked St. Paul Lutheran.

The last team of the District is the Fulton Hornets. Fulton brings a team with several athletes but little experience. The Hornets went 1-22 on the season and 0-5 against teams in the district. Fulton lost 0-6 to Southern Boone a couple of weeks ago, lost twice to Boonville (1-4 and 1-8) and twice to Marshall (0-6 and 0-8). The Hornets will need a lot of help for things to go their way this week.
