2019 Southern Boone Football Preview

Southern Boone Football kicks off their 2019 Season tonight against the Mexico Bulldogs. The Eagles travel north to Mexico tonight as they begin their march for what they hope is their first Tri-County Conference Championship (as they try to pry the title from defending state champs, Blair Oaks) and a repeat District title.

Southern Boone returns 6 starters on Offense and 6 starters returning on defense but ones they did lose were big ones. The Eagles lost All-Stater’s Brett Price (OL), Colby Phillips (RB), Sam Stichnote (DB/QB), Brett Stanfield (LB), and Parker Boyce (K). The Eagles do return a lot of experience and some great players.

Tyson Smith will step into the Quarterback role this year and will look to lead the team. Tyson will line up behind an experienced offensive line that returns several starters; Tyler Frese (LT) was All-Conference and All-District last year and will lead the group. Along with Tyler is Max Hampton (C), Jacob Brooks (LG), Caleb Perkins (RT) from last year and they will be joined by Sam Hampton (RG). Tanner Goodrich and Blake Dapkus look to be the main targets at WR for the Eagles and Tristan John will look to lead the charge out of the backfield.

On defense, the Eagles return most of its starters too. Tyler Freese will lead the Defensive line too along wih Reygan Whitt and Max Hampton. Tanner Goodrich and Blake Dapkus will look to lead the Eagles secondary while Tristan John will lead the Eagles linebackers. The Eagles will look to several athletic players to fill in to help out this year. Trevin Ullrich, Jacob Brooks, Caleb Perkins, Tanner Sapp, and Jonah Sapp will look to fill in and help the defensive line. Ben Brookshire, Jakob McKee, Davd Hyen, Alex Switzer, Chase Schupp, Coy Gulick, and Baden Glass will look to help out at linebacker and in the secondary.

The Eagles start the 2019 season against Mexico. The Eagles defeated Mexico 49-6 to start the 2018 season in Ashland. But the Bulldogs returns 7 offensive starters and 9 defensive starters from a 6-5 team so they will bring a lot more to the table this year.

This will only be the 3rd time that Mexico and Southern Boone has played each other in Football. Mexico won the 1st match up in 2017 33-31 and the Eagles won the 2nd game last year.
