Southern Boone Sports has a big week at Tournaments

Southern Boone had a great week at Tournaments this past week as Volleyball, Softball, and Boys Soccer had great showings at each of the tournaments they played in.

Southern Boone Softball started it off last weekend at the 33rd Annual Hallsville Invitational Softball Tournament. The Lady Eagles came in as the #1 seed and started off the tournament against Westran. They came out strong and had a big win, beating Westran 9-1. In the Semi-Finals, Southern Boone came up against their old Little Dixie Conference rival Harrisburg. The Lady Eagles did not let up on the Lady Bulldogs at all and hammered out an 8-1 victory to improve their record to 5-0 and propel them into the Championship. There, the Lady Eagles faced Salisbury for the 3rd year in a row for the Championship. Southern Boone defeated Salisbury in last years tournament 1-0 and Salisbury defeated Southern Boone 3-2 in 2017. It was another barn burner with the Lady Eagles pulling out a 2-1 victory and claiming their 2nd Hallsville Tournament Championship in a row.

Southern Boone Volleyball went to Fulton this past weekend for the Fulton Invitational. The Lady Eagles came into the tournament having split their first 2 matches of the season. Southern Boone started off with pool play against California, Kirksville, and Savannah. After some tough pool play action they got ready for bracket play. The Lady Eagles came out strong and swept Bowling Green 2-0 in the 1st Round. They kept going with a sweep of a very tough Owensville team in the Semi-Finals to propel them to the Championship game. In the Championship, Southern Boone would face Tri-County Conference rival California. The Lady Eagles split with the Lady Pintos in pool play (18-25, 25-21). Southern Boone came out strong in the 1st set winning 25-20. But the Lady Pintos would prove to be just a little better as they won the last two sets 20-25 and 19-25. Southern Boone fought hard and still came away with a great 2nd Place Trophy.

Also this weekend, the Southern Boone Boys Soccer traveled to Hannibal for the Hannibal Invitational. The Boys were the #1 seed, coming into the tournament with a 4-0 record. The Eagles started it off on Friday with a 5-0. Sam Bonderer led the team with 2 goals scored with additional goals scored by Grant Hoene, Trenton Roney, and Jack Bigos. Southern Boone started off Saturday with a Semi-Final game against the host school, the Hannibal Pirates. The Eagles quickly jumped out against Hannibal and cruised to a 6-0 victory. Grant Hoene led the Eagles with 2 goals with Rece Gilmore, Rajesh Bennett, Trenton Roney, and Mason Ahern. In the Championship, Southern Boone would be facing the Hickman Kewpies. Hickman defeated Southern Boone in 2017 to win the Championship 3-1 and break the Eagles streak of 6 consecutive Hanninbal Tournament Championships (last years tournament was cancelled due to weather). The Eagles would not be denied this year as Rajesh and Sam both scored early to give Southern Boone a 2-0 lead that they would take into halftime. Rece would score off a penalty kick to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. The Kewpies would score a goal in the final minute but it would be too little, too late, as Southern Boone would take the Championship 3-1 and improve to 7-0 on the season.
