The season’s are in full swing and conference match-ups are starting to take hold. Last week started Tri-County conference play in football. The big match-up was Class 3 #1 ranked Blair Oaks vs #6 Boonville. The Falcons held off the Pirates, winning 38-21. Class 3 #6 ranked Southern Boone hosted one heck of a contest itself. A crazy back and forth 1st half saw Versailles take a 28-27 halftime lead as they looked for the upset a 2nd year in a row. But Tristan John and Tyson Smith had something to say about that. John ran for 2 touchdowns and Tyson passed for 2 touchdowns in the 3rd Quarter as Southern Boone pulled away to lead 55-35. Each side scored one more time to give the final score of 61-41. John ran for 192 yards and 4 touchdowns while Smith passed for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns while also rushing for 104 yards and 2 more scores. Blake Dapkus caught 3 passes for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns while Nic Post grabbed 4 passes for 49 yards and a touchdown. Southern Boone will host Eldon this week.

Southern Boone Softball had a quiet week after coming off their big Hallsville Invitational Championship. The Lady Eagles only had two games this week, starting it off against a tough Hickman squad. Camryn Schaller led the Lady Eagles with a couple of hits and had the teams lone RBI. It was the Lady Eagles first loss of the season. Southern Boone bounced back with big win over the Linn Lady Wildcats. Southern Boone jumped out quick on Linn and was able to mercy rule them 12-2 in 5 innings. The Lady Eagles spread the hits up and down the line up as Shelby Reeder, Zoey DeHaas, and Camryn Schaller all had two hits. Shelby also led the team with 3 RBI’s while Zoey and Camryn chipped in 2 apiece.

Boys Soccer had a busy week playing 5 games in the past 6 days. The Eagles started off the busy week with a 7-0 victory over MMA. Rece Gilmore led the way with a hat trick while Rajesh Bennet, Jack Bigos, Jack McCluskey, and Grant Hoene all added goals of their own. Then the Boys jumped right into a busy weekend in Hannibal for the Hannibal Invitational Tournament. The tournament was cancelled last year due to weather, but in 2017 the Hickman Kewpies defeated Southern Boone in the Championship 2-1 to break their streak of 6 consecutive tournament Championships so the Eagles were looking to start a new streak. The Eagles started off the tournament with a 5-0 victory over Lutheran North. Sam Bonderer led the team with 2 goals with Grant, Trenton Roney, and Jack Bigos chipping in goals. On Saturday, the Eagles bested the host team Hannibal 6-0 with another even distribution of scoring. This time Grant led the team with 2 goals while, Rece, Rajesh, Trenton, and Freshman Mashon Ahern added goals. This led to the matchup the Eagles were hoping for, a chance to take down the Hickman Kewpies who beat them 2 years ago. Southern Boone jumped out early, taking a 2-0 halftime lead. Rece added a penalty kick late in the game to seal it while Hickman was able to score a goal while pressing at the end. But the Eagles prevailed 3-1 and reclaimed their title. Rajesh and Sam scored the first half goals for Southern Boone. After just one day off, the Boys had to play host to the always tough Jefferson City Jays last night. The Eagles missed a few chances while the Jays capitalized on theirs and Jeff Cit was able to take a 2-0 lead at the half. Southern Boone was able to put some pressure on the Jays with a goal by Rece toward the end but with the Eagles trying to attack at the end to force overtime, Jeff City was able to score one last goal to seal a 3-1 victory. The Eagles now sit at 7-1 on the season and get themselves ready for a couple of tough games at the end of the week against Bayless and Pembroke Hill.

Southern Boone Volleyball had a busy weekend as they participated in the Fulton Invitational Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Eagles really had a day playing 6 matches in one day. The Lady Eagles worked hard and did great in pool play. Southern Boone started out in the bracket taking on Bowling Green and sweeping them in straight sets 2-0. The Lady Eagles then had to face a tough team from Owensville but were able to keep the play going sweeping them in 2 sets (25-16, 25-17). Southern Boone then was set up to face one of their conference foes, the California Lady Pintos. The two teams split in pool play (18-25, 25-21) and now faced each other for the Championship. The Lady Eagles came out strong and took the 1st set 25-20. But California proved too much at the end of the long day and took the last 2 sets for the Championship (20-25, 19-25). It was a great tournament and the Lady Eagles brought home the 2nd Place trophy. The Lady Eagles then had to come right back and travel to Westphalia to take on a tough Fatima squad last night. Southern Boone battled but wasn’t able to pull off the win, falling to the Lady Comets in two sets (20-25, 12-25). The Lady Eagles have a tough couple of matches later this week as they take on the Hickman and Camdenton.
