Fall sports are coming up on the half way point for most of the sports and conference play is in full swing. In Football there are 3 teams left who are undefeated at 2-0 (Blair Oaks, Hallsville, and Southern Boone) and this week 2 of them play each other. Hallsville travels to Southern Boone this week for the Tri-County Conference game of the week. Southern Boone beat Hallsville 34-8 last year but the Indians have a new coach and a new philosophy this year and have come out and shut out two opponents and held another opponent to 6. The Eagles have been throwing up points this year, scoring 48 or more points in their last 3 games behind the running of Tristan John and the dual threat of Quarterback Tyson Smith. On the outside looking in you still have Boonville who is 1-1 in conference play and 3-1 overall but still ranked #8 in Class 3. Blair Oaks is still #1 and Southern Boone holds at #6 in Class 3. The Eagles had a big win against Eldon this week after coming out slow. Southern Boone led 22-16 at the half and then had another big second half. The Eagles outscored the Mustangs 28-12 in the 2nd half to pull away.
Softball is moving along and Southern Boone is having an amazing season, starting the season 11-1 with their only loss to Hickman who is ranked #6 in Class 4. The Lady Eagles will have another tough match-up tonight in Jefferson City as they will take on Helias who is currently #8 in Class 3. Southern Boone will then take on Hallsville who is currently 2-0 in conference and 7-4 overall and then they will travel to Eugene for the AA Softball Tournament. This past week the Lady Eagles had two great games, shutting out South Callaway 4-0 and 10 running California 11-1. Mariah Prince has a big week with 3 hits and 5 rbi’s against California and 2 hit more hits against South Callaway. Landry Cole led the team with 3 hits against South Callaway. In both games, Camryn Schaller pitched amazing with 8 K’s against South Callaway and 9 K’s against California. She also had 3 hits and 2 rbi’s against California.
Boys Soccer had another week of tough games. The Eagles traveled to St. Louis for the John Burroughs Shootout. They took on the 7-1 Bayless Bronchos first. The Eagles came out quick and scored on a goal in the 1st minute on a goal by Rece GIlmore by a pass from Rajesh Bennett. Bayless came back in the next 5 minutes to tie the game. It stayed tied at 1 and Southern Boone thought they had the lead but a goal was called off for goalie interference. The call didn’t faze the Eagles as the came right back and got the go ahead goal on a header by Rece off a pass from Grant Hohene. They held on to that lead to win 2-1. Southern Boone had to come back the next day and take on a good Pembroke Hill team. The Eagles took another early lead on a goal by Rece off a corner kick from Jack. Just before halftime, Trenton Roney scored off a pass from Grant to put the Eagles up 2-0. The Eagles added one more insurance goal in the 2nd half by Jack McCluskey to provide the final score of 3-0. Southern Boone finished off this past week with a 4-0 victory over Battle. Rece scored 3 of the 4 goals with Trenton adding the other. The Eagles are now 10-1 on the season and I expect will be ranked when the first poll comes out later this week.
Southern Boone Volleyball had a big week with three tough opponents on the schedule. The Lady Eagles started it off by traveling to Centralia and kept alive the hot play be trouncing the Lady Panthers in two straight sets (25-5, 25-14). Next up was a tough match with the Hickman Lady Kewpies who were coming in winners of 4 of their last 5 games. Southern Boone came out strong winning the first set 27-25 but Hickman was able to over powers the Lady Eagles and take the last two sets for the win (21-25, 17-25). Last night the 11-5-2 Camdenton Lady Lakers came to Ashland coming off a 2nd Place finish of their own in the Camdenton Tournament. Southern Boone was able to fend them off and won the match 2 sets to 1. The Lady Eagles are now 6-4-2 on the season and will have their biggest test this week. Southern Boone hosts the always tough and red hot Blair Oaks Lady Falcons. Blair Oaks is 19-0 on the season (4-0 in conference) and are coming off the Cabool Tournament Championship. Any thoughts of a conference title hinge on that game.
